The study offers insights into the phenotypic and genomic features of new species Macrococcus psychrotolerans sp. nov. including first complete sequence of a linear 150-kb plasmid. Confirmed in vitro conjugative transfer of plasmid-borne mecB gene to S. aureus poses a significant risk of spread of broad β-lactam resistance including 5th generation cephalosporins.

Piezoelectric biosensor with dissipation monitoring enables the analysis of bacterial lytic agent activity

We have published a novel approach to monitor the dynamics of lysis of pathogenic bacteria in real time using piezoelectric sensors. The results confirmed the effective synergy between bacteriophages and antibiotics in the action against Staphylococcus aureus, indicating that this is a promising strategy for the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial infections.

Developing a quality dosage form containing bacteriophages is crucial for the practical application of phage therapy. We have published an article dealing with the processing of bacteriophages for treating P. aeruginosa and S. aureus infections into lyophilized tablets. The publication evaluated the quality of the resulting tablets according to pharmaceutical standards and the long-term stability of bacteriophages in this form. The publication was prepared together with colleagues from CEITEC VUT, FaF MUNI and MB Pharma s.r.o.

Permafrost as a source of mineral weathering bacteria: Implications of active layer thickening on James Ross Island, Antarctica

Microbiological research in Antarctica provides a unique perspective on biodiversity and the influence of geochemistry on soil microbial composition. Samples from a 350 cm deep core were analyzed in the area of ​​the J. G. Mendel Czech Antarctic Station on James Ross Island. Geological transitions, such as the interface between the active layer and permafrost or the change between Holocene marine sediments and Cretaceous rocks, had a key influence on microbial composition. Due to warming, the interaction between microbial communities in the active layer and permafrost is expected to deepen in the future.
