Laboratory of Molecular Diagnostics of Microorganisms

The Laboratory of Molecular Diagnostics of Microorganisms is part of the Section of Genetics and Molecular Biology, which is a member of the Department of Experimental Biology.

Our research aims

Our research focus is on the molecular diagnostics and genomics of clinically important pathogens from the genus Staphylococcus. Another part of our research deals with the molecular biology of bacteriophages. The aim of our ongoing projects is to describe interactions between bacteria and phages, trace how phages contribute to horizontal gene transfer, describe polyvalent phages that could be used in phage therapy, and discover new diagnostic methods for molecular epidemiology and taxonomy.

Our Research Projects

We provide theoretical and practical teaching

Regular lectures and laboratory courses in the Molecular Biology of Procaryotes, Molecular Biology of Viruses, Methods of Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Genetic Engineering take place in the LMDM. Courses are attended by bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate students from the Faculty of Science of MU. Our laboratory is a workplace for PhD candidates in the fields of Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics and Microbiology.
